Of course, if you want to be a doctor, astronomer or pharmacist, you need to have a solid scientific background.

Recent coverage by Andy Kiersz and Madison Hoff of Business Insidershows that the highest-paying position in many US states requires a medical degree. Fortunately, though, there are also many high-paying jobs that don't require this scientific training.

we scour themCareers Information Network (O*NET), a US Department of Labor database that collects detailed information on hundreds of jobs and analyzes payroll dataUS Bureau of Labor StatisticsOccupational Employment Statistics program to find jobs with a low "scientific importance" score and an average annual salary greater than $53,490, the total median annual salary as of May 2019, the most recent data available.

O*NET assesses the importance of "apply scientific rules and methods to solve problemsis in all jobs and assigns each a score between 1 and 100. Science-oriented jobs like chemists and veterinarians rank between 80 and 100 on the spectrum, while jobs like news analysts and musicians rank lower of five.

While many jobs require a little scientific knowledge at some point, we looked at occupations where the median annual salary was more than $53,490 and had a science rating of no more than 20.
